Maia Young has two major streams of research.  One stream of work centers on the way in which people’s causal beliefs affect decisions in organizational contexts. For example:  the propensity to perceive groups or individuals as causal agents may affect the tendency to give blame or credit to an organizational leader, an individual’s belief that the world is a just place may affect their perceptions of a colleague’s promotion, and one’s belief in fate or luck in shaping life outcomes may affect their practices for managing risk and achievement motivation.

The second stream of research investigates how anger affects decision-making. Her research finds that anger can have detrimental effects on decision-making, creating greater escalation of commitment to a losing course of action. However, her research also finds that anger can have potentially positive outcomes too, such as creating less biased information searches.
