Diane Shapiro is responsible
for Human Resources executive leadership to the Boeing Space and Intelligence
Systems (S&IS) division of Network and Space Systems. As director of Human Resources, she is
responsible for the implementation of HR strategies, processes, policy and
execution for the S&IS and Spectrolab employees in Southern
California. Most recently,
Diane was the HR leader for Global Mobility Systems and the IDS-Long Beach
site and Phantom Works.
Prior to working in Human
Resources, Diane was responsible for Flight Operations, leading test,
production and training pilots, as well as running the Flight Training Center
for teaching pilots to fly Boeing commercial aircraft. She was also responsible for accident
investigations for all McDonnell Douglas commercial aircraft.
Diane is vice chairman of the
Board of Directors of the Psychological
Trauma Center
(affiliated with Cedars-Sinai
Medical Center)
and on the Board of Boeing California Employee Fitness, a non-profit
organization. She is a member of HAART@UCLA,
a collaboration of HR executives and academics.
Diane began her career as a
professor at UCLA prior to joining Boeing.
She has a Ph.D. in Kinesiology from USC, a Masters in Education from the
University of Michigan,
and a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education from Brooklyn College.
Diane was born in Brooklyn, New York. She has a B.S. from Brooklyn
College in Health and Physical Education, a M.A. from the University
of Michigan in Education, and a Ph.D. from the University of
Southern California in Human Performance. She began her career
as a professor at UCLA and joined Boeing in 1986. She worked
in Long Beach in the newly formed Training Department which
won the C-17 Aircrew Training System Proposal. Diane then went
on to Management Consulting and later became the Director of
Flight Operations, Training and Safety for Long Beach Commercial
where she spent most of her career. She led the experimental,
production, and training pilots, as well as the flight training
center where pilots learned to operate our aircraft. As part
of this position she was also responsible for accident investigation
for all commercial aircraft. She worked in Engineering and Quality
Business Operations for a short time. In October 1999, she was
named Director of Human Resources for Phantom Works/Define
Southern California.
Diane is married to Roland, a Muscle Physiologist at UCLA, and
she has two step children. She enjoys exercising.
